Paddock Motorsport makes management shuffle ahead of 2023 campaign
Paddock Motorsport is gearing up for a return to the Intelligent Money British GT Championship this year, and has made key changes to its management structure ahead of the new season.
Co-founded by Le Mans 24 Hours winner Martin Plowman and actor/racer Kelvin Fletcher in 2021, Paddock Motorsport has grown to become one of the most recognisable GT racing teams in the country, running both GT3 and GT4-spec McLarens within British GT last term.
However, after a shortened schedule of appearances last year, Fletcher has decided to step away from the team to focus on new career opportunities. The co-founders have made the mutual decision in light of Fletcher’s continued and growing work commitments, which brought about several unavoidable clashes with the British GT race programme last season.
The move means that Plowman will take over Fletcher’s duties within the team, becoming sole owner and team principal of Paddock Motorsport.
Plowman said: “Making a decision of this magnitude is never easy, so it is with a heavy heart that we agreed the move was for the best. Kelvin and I are friends as well as colleagues; however, as Kelvin’s acting career continues to evolve, it is compounding the fact that he can’t be in two places at once. Kelvin had to miss several rounds during the 2022 season due to schedule clashes, and this will only become more acute as his acting career and other public appearances continue. I wish Kelvin and his family continued success, and I can’t wait to see him back on the big screen.”
As for Paddock Motorsport’s plans going forward, a multiple-car entry into British GT is on the horizon, and the team has also received a raft of new enquiries after it played a starring role in a major feature with BBC’s Top Gear towards the end of last season, meaning further campaigns in series such as the GT Cup are also under consideration.
