BRITISH GT CHAMPIONSHIP

The British GT Championship is one of the most popular and competitive series in British motorsport, and is widely regarded as the most competitive domestic GT series in Europe, if not the world.

First organised in 1993 as the BRDC National Sports GT Challenge, it originally featured a wide variety of different kinds of cars. The series currently features a GT3 class and a GT4 class, which have been running since 2008.

Paddock Motorsport made its debut in the championship in 2021, running a Bentley Continental GT3, and has expanded to field a three-car team with twin McLarens in both GT3 and GT4, plus a Mercedes-AMG GT4. In 2025 the team has focused its efforts on the headline GT3 category, with Mark Smith and Martin Plowman sharing its 720S GT3 Evo.

The GT3 class is comprised of Pro-Am and Silver-Am graded driver lineups; effectively, one professional driver and one amateur or gentleman driver in each team alongside either an established professional or an aspiring semi-pro. GT4 operates a Silver class for two semi-professional drivers, plus the traditional Pro-Am category.

Both drivers will spend significant time in the car - there are two qualifying sessions for GT3 and GT4, so that first Am and then Pro can drive, and each car will make a mandatory pitstop in every race to change drivers.

Race weekends offer a variety of formats, from twin hour-long sprint races, to two-hour outings and three-hour endurance events that place an emphasis on strategy as well as outright speed.
