GT Cup: P2 finishes in GT3 and GTH
GT Cup Report - Rounds 19, 20, 21 & 22, Donington Park
Sunday’s GT Cup sprint race saw Paddock Motorsport take P2 in both GT3 and GTH classes at Donington Park.
Steve Ruston and Tom Roche both made it onto the podium in the first race of the second day. Not only was that Steve’s first GT3 podium, but it also marked the fourth consecutive GT Cup event in which the #26 has made it onto the podium in at least one race.
That came after a Saturday which was plagued with bad luck which started before the sprint race had even begun. John Whitehouse was hit on the formation lap before Saturday’s sprint and was rendered unable to start the race. Tehmur Chohan, meanwhile, had problems early on and had to pit for an extended period of time, dropping him a few laps down.
The pit-stop race saw an improvement for car #44, as Steve & John came from the back to finish P9. The #26 car finished P8, again hit by some car trouble. The biggest success of Saturday was the guests debuting in the #25 car. Ollie Hall and Louis Smithen both did a super job in the #25, not just finishing both races but finishing ahead of the other GTH entry with a P8 and a P7; a conclusion to a journey all involved can be proud of.
With the #25 not running on Sunday, it was up to the others to provide the good feeling - which they both did in the sprint. That was followed up by more solid results as both cars finished the pit-stop race P6 in class. Tom Roche and Tehmur Chohan were unlucky not to have another podium, having been in the hunt until the last lap.
Only one more GT Cup round remains this season as the series returns to Snetterton in 3 weeks' time for the finale, just a week before the British GT campaign ends here at Donington.
