GT Cup: Double podium in final round sees Tom Roche & Tehmur Chohan finish season P3
GT Cup Report - Rounds 23, 24, 25 & 26, Snetterton
A 2nd place finish for Tom Roche in Sunday’s sprint race and a 3rd place for Tom & Tehmur Chohan was enough to secure P3 in the GT Cup championship’s GTH standings for the pair in the Paddock #26.
Starting the first race of the day P8 in class, Tom Roche unleashed a storming drive to take him up into 4th almost immediately, eventually pushing past two more rivals into P2.
Tom & Tehmur followed that up by coming P3 in an eventful final race. Both the #26 and the #25 of Kavi Jundu & Adam Hatfield led the GTH field at some point in the race, having started 1st and 2nd. Kavi would unfortunately give up the lead after being forced off track by a GT3 stranded on the racing line, allowing Tehmur to take the lead. After some contact while fighting for the lead, the #26 dropped back to P4, but Tom Roche eventually recovered to P3, with Adam Hatfield just behind in P4.
Sunday's results meant that Tom & Tehmur took over P3 in the GTH standings, having gone into the day P4.
They could have had more points on Saturday, as Tehmur had shown the pace in the car and managed pole position on Saturday’s qualifying; sadly, a spinning GT3 caused his sprint to end early, and left him at the back of the pack for the pit-stop race.
With Steve Ruston & John Whitehouse in the GT3 finishing P6 in both Saturday’s rounds, it was Kavi Jundu who secured the biggest points haul of the Saturday with a P4 in the first race. They too could have had a podium, running P2 in the pit-stop race, but eventually Kavi & Adam ended up P7.
Sunday did also see Steve & John end on a high, managing P5 - their best finish of the weekend. In their debut season with GT3 machinery, the former GT Cup championship-winning pairing made it to P6 in the GT3 standings.
With Roche & Chohan P3 in GTH, the #25 pairing of Hatfield & Jundu was P7, finishing P8 and P17 in the overall standings respectively, with Ruston & Whitehouse P18.
